Basically, a Virus is computer program which, among other things, reproduces itself and spreads from one computer to another. It is usually malicious and therefore categorized as Malware, or malicious software.

A virus can hog your computer's resources, or damage your data, or just play 'pranks', like opening your CD tray for no apparent reason.

EVERYONE on the internet is at risk of contracting a computer virus.

IMPORTANT: Unfortunately we must be skeptical of any file sent over the internet. Images, video, music sent via email can contain malicious programs. Check with sender before opening.

A virus 'spreads' much like a contagious disease, from one computer to another through file sharing programs, through email attachments, and even music, pictures, and videos. You must use Antivirus software to automatically scan incoming and outgoing data. Follow the directions given by each product.

NOTE: It is of utmost importance to keep the virus scanners up to date.
